Why Is an Agarwood Enforcement Value Not a Market Price?
Because it describes one case under enforcement conditions, not a transparent series of comparable lawful sales. On February 6, 2025, the Philippine Bureau of Customs reported intercepting an outbound one-kilogram cargo it valued at PHP 750,000. The agency also stated that the shipment had been declared as dried wood chips and that the export violated applicable customs, forestry and wildlife laws.
That is a useful dated enforcement fact. It is not evidence that all agarwood, all Philippine material or all one-kilogram lots are worth PHP 750,000. The public notice does not provide a consumer grading protocol, resin distribution, moisture basis, arm’s-length buyer, completed sale or repeatable market sample. Quoting the figure without those limits would turn a seizure report into a false national price benchmark.
