Tiger Agarwood — Bold, Earthy & Distinctively Vietnamese
Tiger Agarwood gets its name from the distinctive striped grain pattern visible on the wood surface — alternating dark resin veins and lighter wood fibers that resemble tiger stripes. This pattern is a natural signature of how resin accumulates in the outer layers of the Aquilaria crassna tree, and it’s one of the easiest ways to identify authentic Tiger oud.
Tiger is one of the most popular Vietnamese agarwood types — bolder and earthier than Flat Oud, but more accessible than premium grades like Char Oud or Ant Nest. It’s a great choice for users who want real Vietnamese oud character without the higher price point.
Two Grades Available
Grade B — Tiger Standard: One-sided resin (resin visible on one face of the wood). Delivers a bold, earthy scent with a clean woody base. Excellent for everyday burning — consistent, satisfying, and affordable. This is the grade included in our Agarwood Starter Kit.
Grade A — Tiger Premium: Two-sided resin (resin on both faces), meaning higher oil concentration and a noticeably richer, warmer, and longer-lasting fragrance. The scent has more depth and complexity compared to Grade B. For users who enjoy Tiger’s earthy character and want a step up in intensity.
Scent Profile
Tiger Agarwood has a bold, earthy base with warm woody notes and a subtle sweetness that emerges as it burns. The scent is more grounded and direct than Flat Oud — less sweet, more woody. Grade A adds a layer of warmth and resinous depth that lingers longer in the room.
In our agarwood chips collection, Tiger sits in the entry-to-mid range:
Flat Oud → lightest, sweetest, most beginner-friendly
Tiger Grade B → bolder, earthy, distinctive grain — great everyday oud
Tiger Grade A → same character, richer and warmer with higher resin
Drill-Root Oud → deep, resinous from tree root
Char Oud → rich, smoky — our best seller
Ant Nest Oud → rare, complex, formed by ant colonies

The Tiger Stripe Pattern
What makes Tiger agarwood visually unique is the striped grain running across the wood surface. This pattern forms because resin accumulates unevenly through the wood fibers — creating visible dark (resin-rich) and light (wood fiber) bands. The more pronounced the stripes, the higher the resin content. Grade A pieces typically show stronger, more defined striping than Grade B.
How to Burn Tiger Agarwood
Place a small piece on lit activated charcoal inside a ceramic, copper, or wooden burner. For Grade A, an electric incense burner at 120–140°C is recommended — the controlled heat draws out the richer oil content more gradually.
Use 1–2g per session for 15–30 minutes of fragrance. Burn in a ventilated room with the window slightly open. Browse our full incense burner collection for the best setup.
Beyond Burning
Tiger Agarwood is also used as raw material for oud essential oil and incense stick production. The distinctive striped pieces also make appealing display items for oud enthusiasts — many customers keep a few pieces visible in their collection alongside other grades.
Storage Tips
Store in a sealed bag or airtight container away from direct sunlight and moisture. Tiger Agarwood holds its scent well over time — the earthy character remains stable even after extended storage. For detailed care instructions, read our agarwood storage guide.
