“How long does perfume oil last?” has two separate answers. Wear time is how long you can detect a fragrance after applying it; shelf life is how long the material remains stable in the bottle. Formula, dose, skin, heat, storage and perception all matter, so a single universal number is less useful than a repeatable way to test your own bottle.
Two timelines, not one: a fragrance can wear quietly on skin while the unopened bottle remains stable for a long time. Conversely, a bottle can change through poor storage even if the scent once lasted well on skin.
Separate wear time on skin from shelf life in the bottle
Wear time starts when a skin-labelled perfume oil touches skin or a scent strip. It ends when the fragrance is no longer noticeable at normal smelling distance, not when you have simply become used to it. Some oils project strongly at first and settle close to the skin; others remain detectable for a long time but never travel far. Shelf life concerns the product before application.
