Ant Nest Agarwood — Whole Pieces, Rare & Complex Vietnamese Oud
Ant Nest Agarwood is among the most prized types of Vietnamese oud. It forms when ants bore deep tunnels into Aquilaria crassna trees in old-growth forests, creating extensive wounds that trigger intense resin secretion over many years. The result is agarwood with exceptionally high resin density and a fragrance that is richer, deeper, and more complex than almost any other type.
These are whole, intact pieces — not fragments or chips. Each piece preserves the natural shape created by the ant tunneling process, with visible resin veins and a dense, heavy feel. If you’ve tried our Ant Nest Fragments and loved the scent, whole pieces deliver the same profile with even more intensity and longer burn time.
Scent Profile
Ant Nest Agarwood produces a warm, deeply layered aroma that unfolds in stages. The opening is smooth and resinous, followed by rich woody notes with subtle sweetness. As the burn progresses, deeper, almost honey-like undertones emerge. The smoke is gentle and elegant — never harsh.
The complexity of Ant Nest comes from the unique formation process: ant tunnels create an intricate network of resin pockets throughout the wood, so each piece contains multiple layers of concentrated oil that release at different temperatures. This is why experienced users often prefer Ant Nest over simpler, more uniform grades.
How Ant Nest Compares
In our agarwood chips collection, whole Ant Nest pieces sit near the top:
Flat Oud → light, sweet, beginner-friendly
Tiger Agarwood → bold, earthy with distinctive grain
Char Oud → rich, smoky — our best seller
Ant Nest Fragments → same scent profile, smaller pieces, more affordable
Ant Nest Whole Pieces → full intensity, intact natural shape, highest resin density
Ky Hainan → ultra-premium sinking-grade from Hainan Island
Want to sample before committing? Our Agarwood Starter Kit includes a 2g Ant Nest sample along with 6 other types.
Available Sizes
Whole Ant Nest pieces are sold by weight across three size categories. Larger pieces are rarer, have higher resin concentration, and make impressive display pieces even before burning:
Small (2–5cm) → ideal for regular burning sessions
Medium (6–10cm) → richer burn, great balance of size and value
Large (11–25cm) → collector-grade, exceptional resin density, stunning natural shapes
How to Burn Ant Nest Agarwood
Traditional method: Light activated charcoal and let it turn white-hot. Place a mica plate or ash layer on top to regulate heat, then set a small piece on the surface. Avoid direct flames — indirect heat preserves the natural oils and allows the complex scent layers to unfold gradually.
Electric burner method: Set an electric incense heater to 120–140°C. Place a piece on the heating plate and let it warm slowly. This is the recommended method for Ant Nest — the controlled, steady heat draws out every layer of fragrance over an extended session.
For larger pieces, you can shave off a small amount for each session and preserve the rest. Browse our full incense burner collection for the best setup, including charcoal burners and ceramic holders.
Beyond Burning
Whole Ant Nest pieces are highly versatile. They can be used for oud essential oil extraction, ground into powder for premium incense, or simply displayed as a natural collectible. Many customers keep whole pieces in glass cases — the natural ant tunnel patterns make each piece a unique work of nature.
Origin & Sourcing
Sourced from old-growth forests in Khánh Hòa, Quảng Nam, and Hà Tĩnh — Vietnam’s most renowned agarwood regions. Each piece is individually inspected and sorted by size and resin quality before listing.
Storage Tips
Store in an airtight container away from direct sunlight and moisture. Ant Nest agarwood’s high resin content means it ages beautifully — the fragrance often deepens and mellows over time when stored properly. For detailed care instructions, read our agarwood storage guide.

Every piece of Ant Nest Agarwood from Oudgo is hand-selected and verified for authenticity. Given the high value of whole pieces, we understand trust is essential — our support team is available to answer any questions, and our return policy ensures your satisfaction.
