Agarwood Flat Oud — Light, Sweet & Perfect for Beginners
Flat Oud is formed near the bark of the Aquilaria crassna tree in Vietnam. When the bark is naturally damaged, the tree secretes resin in thin, flat layers — producing a gentle, sweet fragrance that’s easy to enjoy even if you’ve never burned agarwood before.
There are two grades: one-sided (resin on one side only) and two-sided (resin on both sides — richer scent, higher value). Both burn cleanly and fill a room with a warm, calming aroma.
Scent Profile
Flat Oud has a light, sweet scent with a soft warmth — less intense than deeper grades like Char Oud or Ant Nest. The first note is mildly woody and clean, followed by a subtle sweetness that lingers in the room. The smoke is thin and delicate, never overpowering. Burning time is about 15–30 minutes per session, and even a small piece can scent an entire room.
If you’re new to agarwood, Flat Oud is the best starting point — it gives you a clear sense of what Vietnamese oud smells like without the intensity of higher grades.
How to Burn Flat Oud
Place a small piece of Flat Oud on lit activated charcoal inside a ceramic, copper, or electric incense burner. Use only a small amount — a little goes a long way. Burn in a ventilated room with the window slightly open for the best experience.

How Flat Oud Compares to Other Chips
Flat Oud is the lightest and most affordable in our agarwood chips collection. Here’s how it fits:
Flat Oud → light, sweet, beginner-friendly
Tiger Agarwood → bolder, earthy with distinctive grain patterns
Drill-Root Oud → deep and resinous from the tree root
Char Oud → rich, smoky — our best seller
Ant Nest Oud → rare, complex scent from ant colonies
If you want to try several types at once, our Agarwood Starter Kit includes 7 different samples so you can discover your favorite.
Storage Tips
Keep your Flat Oud in a sealed bag or airtight container away from direct sunlight and moisture. Properly stored agarwood retains its scent for years — and many enthusiasts say the fragrance actually improves with age. For more details, read our agarwood storage guide.
Beyond Burning
Flat Oud isn’t just for burning. It’s also commonly used as a raw material for making oud essential oils and incense sticks. Some customers simply keep pieces in their closet or car as a natural, chemical-free air freshener.
